A significant weather event occurred in northeastern Illinois during the pre-dawn hours of October 31, 2024, as strong southwesterly winds were recorded. Peak wind gusts were observed between 1:00 and 3:00 AM CDT.

The highest recorded wind speeds included:

- Harrison-Dever Crib: 62 mph

- Park Forest: 55 mph

- Manhattan: 55 mph

- Rolling Meadows: 53 mph

- Waukegan: 52 mph

- Lakeview, Chicago: 51 mph

Additional gusts were reported at:

- Hanover Park: 51 mph

- Chicago O’Hare: 51 mph

- Mount Prospect: 50 mph

- NWS Chicago: 49 mph

- Palwaukee: 49 mph

- West Chicago: 45 mph

The National Weather Service in Chicago noted that these observations were collected from various sources, which utilize different types of equipment and have varying exposures. Strong winds are expected to continue throughout the day.
