The Juneteenth Community Empowerment Festival in Rocky Mount begins at 1 p.m. today, June 15, at the Rocky Mount Train Station. The event will feature an opening ceremony with Mark Greene and Willie Hinton, performances by Kuumba West African Dance Co., Zuzu Acrobats, Zeb Harrison & Sounds of Praise, and a keynote speech by Earl Ijames. The festival will also include appearances by Serina Pitt, Your Queens Inc., and the John & Mary Perry Scholarship Recognition. Ray Chew & The Crew, along with Hometown Hero Joe Gray and Alyson Williams, will be performing. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
