**Gulf Gate Elementary Welcomes Students Back After Hurricane Milton**

Gulf Gate Elementary School in Sarasota, Florida, was transformed into an evacuation center during Hurricane Milton in partnership with Sarasota County Government. Over the course of six days, the school welcomed approximately 10,000 guests, along with support staff and 1,600 pets.

In addition to the evacuees, Gulf Gate Elementary housed 500 National Guard members and 250 FEMA Search and Rescue officers. Local police, fire departments, and the Sarasota County Schools Emergency Management Team, including the Tactical First In Team (TFIT), were also present.

During this time, the school served over 38,000 meals to those in need.

The school expressed gratitude to all staff and community members for their support and dedication during the emergency. Students are set to return to school on Wednesday, October 16.
